Wind River Elementary is once again participating in the Trout in the Classroom program sponsored by the Wyoming Game and Fish and Wyoming Trout Unlimited. We received 150 fertilized Rainbow Trout eggs from the Dubois Fish Hatchery and will raise them to the fry stage. Once they reach that stage, we will release them in conjunction with the WGF. Stay tuned for updates and pictures as we watch and help our fish grow!

Wind River Schools is excited to announce our annual service week! Our service week will be held the week of February 9-14, 2026. There will be a silent auction and other activities throughout the week. We will have more information coming after the Christmas break. We are in need of auction items! Our auction has been the main source of funding during this week, and we are so grateful for everyone who donates. Past items have included homemade blankets/quilts, donated hay, artwork, animals, varying types of baskets, and many, many others. If you have any questions or have items ready to donate, please email a description, value, and a picture to secretaryta@fre6.k12.wy.us. You may also bring your item directly to the school. Thank you for your continued support of this fantastic week! Again, more information will be coming after Christmas break. Happy Holidays!

Our high school math class got a surprise visit from the Grinch last week! Students grabbed their tape measures to practice measuring the Grinch’s height and put their estimation skills to work by estimating the volume of various objects around the school. Proof that math can be festive, hands-on, and relevant — even with a little Grinchy mischief mixed in!

Christmas Spirit Week

Fremont County School District #6 is in the biennial process of reapplying for an alternative calendar in accordance with WDE (Wyoming Department of Education) Chapter 2 School Schedules rule pursuant to W.S. 21-02-304(b)(viii) and W.S. 21-4-301. Public meetings are scheduled for Thursday, December 18 from 6:00-7:00 and Tuesday, January 6 from 6:00-7:00 in the elementary library. Please review the attached student day calendars put forth by the 2026-2028 Calendar Committee.

Calendar Option #1 is a mirror of the 2025-2026 calendar.

Calendar Option #2 differences:
Adds 12 more instructional days
Supported by research from the American Academy of Pediatrics with a later start time to the day
One week later start for the beginning of the school year
Longer Christmas Break
Similar to calendars from 2014-2020 which often had one or two student instruction Fridays

A FCSD #6 school board approved calendar must be submitted to the WDE by April 1, 2026 for State Board of Education approval.

Two calendar options for the 2026/2027 school year

South Big Horn District (SBHD) music held its annual Honor Band and Choir clinic Nov. 21 and concert November 22 at the Rock Springs High School Auditorium.

Out of the 82 band attendees, four Wind River High School band members were chosen to participate, including Ricki Kompkoff on Flute; Gabe Adams on Trombone; Eric Bowcutt on the Baritone and Kimber Spens on Tuba.

Next to auditioning and attending All State, this is the highest level group most of these students will see during their high school career.

On behalf of our wrestling team, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to the town of Pavillion for the constant support you’ve shown us, both on and off the mat. As a small token of appreciation, we were honored to give back by hanging Christmas lights up at City Park, hoping to add a little extra cheer to a community that means so much to us. Thank you for your encouragement, your pride in our athletes, and the strong sense of unity that makes Pavillion such a special place. From all of us, we wish you a warm and joyful Christmas season.
