They got to experience a glimpse of college life by staying in the dorms, attending classes, meeting professors and other students and participating in fun activities on campus and around Laramie.

The Wind River Middle School track season was, by all accounts, a massive success! From capturing conference team championships in different divisions and sending athletes to the Best-of-the-Best meet, to shattering school records, our athletes pushed their limits. But beyond the medals, what truly defined this season was the grit and heart of the over 50 athletes who stepped onto the track every day, willing to test themselves both mentally and physically.

While there were countless victories, two moments perfectly captured the spirit of this team:

📣 The Power of the Team
During the grueling 1,600-meter run, Carmya Realbird didn't run alone. As she fought through the laps on her way to breaking the school record, her teammates sprinted to different corners of track just to cheer her on. It was a visual and literally a loud reminder that in track and field and just about anything in life, supporting one another is just as important as crossing the finish line.

🏆 A Historic Finish
The second moment came down to the absolute last race of the entire season at the Best-of-the-Best Meet: the dreaded 4x400-meter relay. It’s a race infamous for causing sudden "pre-race injuries" and "mysterious illnesses"—calling it tough is an understatement.

But our boys didn't blink. The team of Westen Brazil, Tucker Robison, Josh Walker, and Jaymes Francis didn’t just survive the race—they won it! Competing against the top teams in the region, they took gold and became the only Wind River relay team in the last decade to win at the Best-of-the-Best. What a great way to cap off a season!

In closing, a special thank you to Coach Gomendi for dusting off the old whistle and imparting wisdom on both athletes and coaches (those starts!). Mr. Klein or Mr. Kline...ok both one for volunteering for shake-out runs and the other for leading the entire track program with ideas, encouragement and taking care of our material needs! Chewy, KC, Mrs. Remacle, and high school athletes for helping with field event techniques and supervision. Coach Hunter--A great race or field event begins with a great warm-up. Coach Cunningham who sees both little details and the big picture in track and athletics. School administration for allowing us the opportunity to attend track meets during the week and putting on a great conference meet. Finally, thank you to all the track workers, parents, fans, and athletes for making this an unforgettable season. Go Cougars!

Our 4th grade students had a wonderful opportunity this week to participate in swimming lessons, and it was an incredible experience for everyone involved. The students not only had a great time in the water, but they also learned valuable swimming and water safety skills that will benefit them for years to come.

We are so proud of the confidence, effort, and enthusiasm our students showed throughout the week!

A special thank you goes to the FCSD#6 school board and Lander Swimming for helping make this opportunity possible for our students. Your support and partnership are truly appreciated, and experiences like these make a lasting impact on our kids.

Mrs. Mickelson and Mr. Kline combined to take the 8th graders up Whiskey Basin to learn about ecosystems, wilderness safety, petroglyphs, and erosion. Students hiked up past the falls, then had the opportunity to fish (only a couple of students caught fish) and then hike to the petroglyphs. Great cross curricular learning through Science and Physical Education!
